A Madison County Jail inmate died on Friday around 4 p.m., following an altercation among prisoners.

According to a press release, Eddie Stacey was mortally wounded following the incident.

“Deputies and emergency medical personnel administered life saving measures. Despite these efforts, Mr. Stacey died from his injuries,” stated the release.

According to the Idaho Repository, Stacey was being held after being charged with driving under the influence and possessing an open container of alcohol in his car. He had been sentenced to 180 days in jail with 90 days of those suspended. His driver’s license was also suspended.

The Sheriff’s Office declined to release the names of those also involved in the incident.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we will be seeking prosecution for this crime,” said the press release.
