Sugar-Salem’s girls basketball team rolled past another opponent Wednesday beating Snake River 51-35.

Sugar led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter then outscored Snake River in each of the next three quarters.

“We came out and had a pretty strong start,” Dayley said. “We outscored them in all four of the quarters. So that always something we try to do.”

Sugar’s 17 steals powered a defensive engine that is seemingly winning games singlehandedly.

“That’s just kind of been our strength this year (defense),” Dayley said. “We came out and played three really good defensive quarters. In the fourth quarter we gave 15 points but in the first three quarters we held them single digits in all three of those. I was really happy with that.”

Mardee Fillmore led the Lady Diggers with 20 points, Michelle Luke scored seven points and Hailey Harris scored six points.

Sugar will play Shelley in Shelley Friday after beating them 54-15 in Sugar’s season opener.

“It’s been a long time for both of us,” Dayley said. “They had a coaching change over Christmas so it’ll be interesting to see what they do now.”
