Sugar-Salem’s Ricardo Contreras and a South Fremont defender fight for the ball.

After topping the Cougars in St. Anthony 5-0 on September 19, the Diggers once again beat South Fremont 5-0 Tuesday.

A different player scored each of their goals. Nathan Dayley, Austin Hawkes, Jordan Dayley, Devin Peterson and Joshua Rhoton each scored goals. Jordan Dayley assisted on the first two goals and the final goal and Ethan Tuttle assisted on Peterson’s goal.

“It was a nice win to finish out the regular season,” said Sugar-Salem coach Glenn Dayley. “We have had a good, fun season. We have a great bunch of young men who really enjoy playing together. We look forward to the district tournament and hope that we can make it victorious through the next two matches and then head to state for the 7th year in a row.”

South Fremont felt proud of their effort defensively in the second half. After allowing three goals in the first half they only allowed one goal in the second half.

“I guess they just had to step it up a little bit,” said South Fremont head coach Shayn Blair

As the first and fourth seeds going into the district tournament Sugar-Salem and South Fremont will face off Monday in Sugar City. The winner will play the winner of Firth and Teton who, as of publication, hadn’t played their final regular-season game yet. That game will determine if Firth or Teton has a home-field advantage in the first round.

The Championship game will also be at Sugar-Salem regardless of winners on Wednesday.
