Sugar-Salem's girls basketball team hasn't played since December 23 but they started this year much like they finished last year — by winning. The Diggers topped 10-1 Snake River 59-46 despite a big game from Josee Steadman.

The Diggers won every quarter by playing team basketball. Three Digger scored double digits led by Katie Miller who had 15 points and 13 rebounds.

"I just feel like we had a lot of kids who contributed," said Sugar-Salem head coach Crystal Dayley. "One of our team's biggest strengths is we don't really have one player that a team has to stop. We have so many different kids who can contribute offensively. When one person's having an off game some one else steps up."

Steadman scored 26 points including five three pointers despite good Digger defense including a 4-point play in the fourth quarter.

"She's a great shooter and unfortunately she still kind of went off on us," Dayley said." She had a really good game. She hit several contested shots."

Dayley said it's no coincidence that her players came out and played well despite having a couple of weeks off.

"The kids work hard in practice every day and they're focused," Dayley said. "They have goals on their mind and their working hard to achieve them."

Sugar's next two games are against Bear River and Ridgeline in Northern Utah.
