Madison beat Thunder Ridge in five sets Thursday to win the 5A district VI-V tournament and clinch a top seed in next week’s state tournament.
Madison won the second, fourth and fifth sets. Set scores were 22-25; 26-24; 21-25; 30-28; 15-8.
“It was kind of scary,” said Madison head coach Meranda Maestas. “They played really well and it was just intense all night and I think we a little surprised when we came out to play and we let our nerves get to us early on. Around set four we kind of settled in and started fighting and started playing our game and making the adjustments we needed to beat them.”
Madison will play Boise in the first round of the playoffs in at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 1.
“I know they came down here for a tournament early in the season and they beat Thunder Ridge twice,” Maestas said. “Everything that I’ve heard is that they’re a really good team. I haven’t personally seen them play but it should be a good game.”
