Madison’s Tyson Clark pins an opponent at a tournament at Bonneville earlier this season.

The Madison High School will be the scene of their annual invitational wrestling meet that will feature 16 varsity teams as well as a girl’s division and a junior varsity tourney this Friday and Saturday. There will be schools from three states as Utah, Wyoming and Idaho will send teams to the Rexburg tournament.

“We are excited to host this meet as it will be the first time for girls to have their own tournament here,” Aaron Peterson, coach of Madison, said. “We are going to feature some outstanding wrestling with Sugar Salem, Century, Thunder Ridge, Jerome and Star Valley, Wyoming, fighting for the team championship. It also looks like 10 of the 16 schools will have girls competing.”

The tournament will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday with four rounds that day followed on Saturday with the finals starting around 3 p.m.

“We should have three or four wrestlers finish in the top three for us,” said Peterson. “Jaden (Smith) is back from his injury, Tyson Clark finished fourth at the Rollie Lane tournament in Boise last week and Noah Ingram has really had a good year. At least those three have a good shot at placing.

This tournament is the beginning of the second half of their season for the local wrestlers as they prepare for the districts and state meets.
