Madison’s Ryan Stutz finished seventh in the Tiger-Grizz Varsity A race on Friday afternoon to lead the Bobcats to a fifth-place finish. Idaho Falls’ Luke Athay won the race in 16:13 and was the only District IV 6A runner to finish ahead of Stutz.
“I was really pleased with the running of our boys as they continue to show improvement with each meet,” said Steve Barrus, Madison’s head coach. “I look forward to them continuing to improve as the season progresses.”
Madison’s top five was Stutz; Logan Thomas (19th), Hinckley Manner (33rd), Liam Godfrey (37th), and Daxton Webb (48th). Rock Mountain finished first in the team standings followed by Preston, Idaho Falls, Blackfoot and then Madison.
The Bobcat girls continue to fight injuries and illness as they finished in ninth place with Rock Mountain also winning the girl’s Division A race. Skyline’s Nelah Roberts was the girls individual champion with Madison’s top five finishers were Brynlee Gwilliam (41st), Ellie Dixon (47th), Ester Moldenhauer (56th), Macie Mortensen (62nd) and Clara Thomas (65th).
Madison’s next scheduled competition will be in Boise for the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park on Saturday, September 25. Barrus is hoping to have his teams at full strength to compete in the prestigious race which will feature top runners.
