REXBURG − A Rexburg man is facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison after being charged with lewd conduct with a child and rape.
Taylor Morgan Beattie, 22, is currently being held in the Fremont County Jail in St. Anthony but his alleged sex crimes against two girls occurred in Rexburg in neighboring Madison County.
Beattie was recently arrested by Rexburg police, who are alleging that he committed sex crimes against the girls for the past three years. Police would not release any information about the victims except that they are both under age 16.
“This is an adult male that is taking advantage of some underage individuals,” Rexburg Police Chief ShaneTurman said about Beattie.
Rexburg police said they arrested Beattie after he admitted to some of the sex crimes allegations made against him.
“We had received word that he had been having sex with underage girls,” Rexburg police detective Ray Hermosillo said. “And speaking with (Beattie) he admitted to most of the charges and at that time he was charged with lewd conduct with a minor and rape.”
After being arrested Beattie was booked into the Madison County Jail in Rexburg with bail set at $100,000.
But he was then transferred to the Fremont County Jail because of a probation violation warrant for a previous charge of injury to a child.
Rexburg police have not yet released further details about Beattie’s alleged sex crimes involving the two girls.
