SUGAR CITY - The Sugar City Council is asking residents to watch its upcoming council meeting via Zoom, a video conferencing service. It’s doing so to help prevent the spread of the virus.

The Thursday meeting will be significantly different from the council's previous meetings as Mayor Steve Adams will be the only council member sitting at the podium. Unlike past meetings where council members also sat at the podium, they will instead log in from home. City Clerk Wendy McLaughlin will run the city’s website from another room.

While the meeting will be broadcast via the internet, anyone not comfortable using Zoom, and still interested in attending the meeting, may do so. Yet, the city is strongly encouraging residents to watch from home, McLaughlin said.

“They can get online and see everything we’ll be seeing. They can speak and be on video as well,” she said.

Those interested in watching the meeting need to go onto the city’s website and click on the Zoom App.

“It will take them right there to the meeting. This will be a good deal once we get the public schooled (in using it). It’s been a learning curve.”

The city started relying on Zoom about three months ago and continues to work the bugs out of the system.
