The Rexburg Mobile Food Pantry plans to hold its monthly Emergency Food Distribution from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the Madison Jr. High parking lot.
Cars may start lining up at 4 p.m. but anyone who arrives before 4 p.m. will be asked to leave.
“This is considered an essential service by the government and will be held as scheduled with proper precautions being taken,” said Food Pantry official Jess Goudy.
Strict guidelines will be enforced to protect both the volunteers and those getting the food, she said.
Those receiving the food must be able and willing to open their own doors, trunks or tailgates, so food can be placed inside. Recipients must also close their doors, trunks or tailgates.
“If you cannot do this, please plan to bring someone with you who can. Our volunteers are under strict guidelines to not touch patrons, patrons’ cars, or items in patrons’ cars,” Goudy said.
Goudy is also asking that food recipients have a space cleared out in their vehicles for the food boxes to be placed inside. She’s asking those getting the food to stay in their cars until they pull up to the food distribution location. If those or anyone in their household requesting food is sick, they are asked to have someone else pick up their food for them.
“Do to proximity guidelines, everyone must be in a vehicle to pick up food. If you do not have a car, please coordinate with someone who does to pick up a box. For our safety and yours, no walk up food distribution will take place,” she said.
