The Homestead Assisted Living Center held “The Git Up” challenge for its residents and employees.

The competition has employees and residents film their own videos where they dance to Blanco Brown’s song “The Git Up.” They generally follow the dance moves set out in Brown’s music video. The best video submitted to the Homestead wins.

Sam Stoddard, vice president of operations, said the idea came from Homestead’s owner Dave Thueson. He was watching popular “The Git Up” challenge videos on social media and felt that it was something that the staff and residents would really enjoy.

Stoddard said the employees and residents were excited about the contest. He said organizers for this in-house competition have been very impressed with the videos that were put together and the involvement they’ve seen.

The challenge does have a monetary prize that will be given after they’ve all been judged. There will be three judges evaluating the 10 to 12 videos that the Homestead has received. They include Rexburg City Mayor Jerry Merrill, Gary Archibald from Archibald Insurance, Jana Bishoff from First American Title. The grand prize will be awarded on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Homestead located at 407 West First North, Rexburg.

Several of the submitted videos can be found on the Homestead’s Youtube channel.

“The biggest driver for this was people think assisted living is a place you come and eventually pass away from,” Stoddard said. “They’ve done all sorts of things from snowmobiling, to cruises, to fishing up and down the rivers. This is just one more thing they get to enjoy. Giving residents and elderly and staff have something to do, to bless their lives and have some fun. The Homestead isn’t some place you come to pass but to enjoy life and get the best out of what you got.”
