REXBURG − Hanging on the door of Wingers is a sign that reads “This Restaurant is Permanently Closed,” and when you call them a voice mail replies with a somber voice that says, “Unfortunately we are closing this location permanently.”

According to a Facebook comment made by Austin Shepston, He and others were working at the restaurant until this morning. And he says that he was given no warning or early notice of the closure.

“There was zero notice to us,” Shepston said in his post. “All I’ve found out is that the decision was made on Friday night.”

According to Shepston the restaurant will not have a future last day for customers hoping to say goodbye. It is closed “effective immediately.”

Bruce Hansen, from WingerBro's marketing department, said the decision was made about two weeks ago. He cannot confirm whether or not employees were given sufficient notice. He said the reason for closing was a lack of business. He also said that the reason they chose to close this morning was because it was the end of the business period.

The response to the closure, on Facebook, was mixed. Some said they loved it and said they will miss eating there, others said "Good Riddance."

There is no word yet on if Wingers will come back or what will replace it, if it doesn't.

Wingers gave a statement to the Upper Valley Standard Journal saying

"Wingers Restaurants is saddened to announce that the Wingers has closed for business at its Rexburg, Idaho location," the statement read. "We are working diligently to assist the Rexburg staff to obtain other employment in the area, and have offered them temporary continued employment with us while we work to move equipment and clean the building. We are hopeful that Wingers might be back again in the Rexburg area in the future, but likely in a different location. Wingers would like to thank the people and the city of Rexburg for many great years for allowing us to be a part of the community. Wingers has 5 other locations in Idaho, including Pocatello, and are currently looking to open a new Wingers Restaurant & Alehouse in the Idaho Falls area.”

The Standard Journal will continue to update this story as information becomes available.
