The Ashton Police Department is searching for information about a suspect who vandalized the Fremont County District Library in Ashton.

Library staff found that the building had been vandalized when they walked in to work on Tuesday morning, said librarian Melodie Hess.

The suspect sprayed the front lawn and everything in the foyer with pest foam spray, Hess said. They also stole painted rock collections that decorated the library’s flower beds. The pest foam spray can was discarded in the flower beds.

“Those (rocks) are hand painted by our coworker,” Hess said. “It’s not just some rocks that were taken from the premises, they had painted scenes and messages on them.”

The library remained open while cleaning the vandalism, she said. Visitors noticed the library didn’t look quite right but that didn’t stop normal operations.

Library staff contacted police and the department is investigating the crime, Hess said.

Anyone with information about the suspect can contact the Ashton Police Department at 208-624-4482. The department is dispatched through the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
