What school do you teach at?

Henry’s Fork Elementary.

What department are you with and what classes do you teach?

Fourth grade teachers, all core classes.

How long have you been teaching in general? At the school you are at now?

I have been teaching for 18 years. Eight years at Henry’s Fork.

What made you decide to be a teacher?

My kids were growing up. I worked as a librarian in the school system. I decided it might be a good fit for me. I had several of my children that had learning struggles and I wanted to help students with similar challenges.

What do you enjoy about being a teacher?

I enjoy watching a struggling student be successful.

What are some challenges?

There is not enough time to teach everything I would like to cover and discover.

What is an experience you have had as a teacher that stands out to you?

I love changing students with closed mindsets into open mindsets.

Why did you decide to teach at the school you are currently at?

My children were in this school and I wanted to be on the same schedule. I can walk to work.

What is something interesting about you most of your students don’t know?

I finished concrete with my father to put myself through college the first time.

What are some things that are different in the education system now compared to when you first started teaching/when you were a student?

More rigor and less time to discover and enjoy a learning opportunity because of schedules and time constraints.
