What school do you teach at?

Hibbard Elementary.

What department are you with and what classes do you teach?

Third grade.

How long have you been teaching in general? At the school you are at now?

Ten years, five in public school (three at Hibbard) and five in a preschool at home while my children were growing up.

What made you decide to be a teacher?

I have always loved children and I love to be a part of their learning.

What do you enjoy about being a teacher?

Interacting with the students and continuing to learn about how children learn!

What are some challenges?

Finding the time to teach everything, helping students with their mental health worries, cell phones in the classroom.

What is an experience you have had as a teacher that stands out to you?

Teaching online during COVID last spring is something that I will never forget and hopefully not have to repeat! The support from parents during that time and how we were all trying our best to be good teachers, students and parents was incredible.

Why did you decide to teach at the school you are currently at?

When I went back to teaching I really wanted to be at the school my children attended.

What is something interesting about you most of your students don’t know?

I don’t live at the school!

What are some things that are different in the education system now compared to when you first started teaching/when you were a student?

Technology has come such a long way-for the positive and negative. Much more testing than 20 years ago as well as more mental health challenges. Many more resources available and more support from administration.
