IDAHO FALLS — A Rigby woman died in a boating accident Saturday evening on the South Fork of the Snake River.

Cara Tomita, 33, died at the scene of the accident from injuries she sustained in the crash.

The accident that occurred around 6:50 p.m. Saturday about two miles south of the Conant Boat Dock also injured two men from Idaho Falls.

The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office reports that the operator of the boat with the three occupants lost control and struck the edge of the river channel. The boat came to rest on dry land outside the river channel.

The operator of the 19 foot Weldcraft aluminum jet boat, Christopher Fife, 34, of Idaho Falls and an additional passenger Richard Olaveson, 40, of Idaho Falls were transported by ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

The news release from the sheriff's Office stated that alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the crash and the investigation is ongoing.

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, Swan Valley Ambulance and Idaho Falls paramedics responded to assist with the accident.
