Girls hoops got next

"It's good to get the jitters out," said Todd Jensen, coach of Sugar-Salem's girls varsity team. "It's good to get the volleyball out of them."
Ben Lenz, coach of the North Fremont Huskies, appreciated the event since it provided extra experience for his young team. The Huskies have a few sophomores and one freshmen on their squad, so any playing time they can get will help immensely.
"We're youthful, and don't have all of the experience, but that should come," said Lenz.
The night also proved to be useful for the coaches to see what adjustments need to be made as the teams continue their preseason practices. After two scrimmages against Madison and Century, Jensen saw a couple of things that need improving.
"Our boxing-out, our rebounding isn't where it needs to be. We have some big girls, so I would like to see us improve there," he said.
Despite the need for improvement, Sugar performed well in the scrimmages, winning each of their three games. Both Sugar and North Fremont, teams from smaller divisions, held their own against the larger schools, Century and Madison. North Fremont lost by two to Madison, and followed that close defeat up with a close victory over Century.
Sugar finished the night with three wins, Madison won two, North Fremont won one scrimmage, and Century finished the night without a win.
All four upper valley teams open the season on Friday. Madison plays at Jerome; Sugar-Salem is at Declo; South Fremont visits Filer and North Fremont will host Taylors Crossing.
