N. Fremont beats Shelley for first win of soccer season

REXBURG - The Madison Bobcats got three goals from senior Ty Shiffler in a 4-2 win over Bonneville in soccer action at Madison Middle School on Thursday afternoon.

"The match up was pretty even," said Madison coach Joe Paredes. "Bonneville is a really good team. Both teams played hard."

After Bonneville scored in the seventh minute, Shiffler broke free from the Bonneville defense, including the goalkeeper for an empty net goal.

Eight minutes later, Shiffler broke free and hit on a shot from 20 yards out to give the Bobcats the lead for good.

In the second half, Shiffler scored in the sixth minute of the half, while Kelton Peck added a goal in the 22nd minute to ice the game.

Madison will play at Rigby on Saturday.

North Fremont 4, Shelley 0

At Shelley, behind the foot of Franco Leon, the North Fremont Huskies picked up their first win of the season.

Leon scored three of the four goals for North Fremont.

Angel Patino added the fourth goal for North Fremont.

"They were really determined to get a shutout," said North Fremont coach Dave Jacobson.

North Fremont will host Sugar-Salem next Thursday.

South Fremont 4, Teton 2

At St. Anthony, the South Fremont Cougars overcame a sluggish performance Thursday to defeat Teton, 4-2. "It was probably our worst match of the year," said South Fremont coach Shayn Blair. Nathan Huber, Julio Flores, Misael Cisneros and Alfredo Arredondo all scored goals in the win for South Fremont.

The Cougars entered Thursday's game off a win at Sugar-Salem on Tuesday, which may have contributed to South Fremont playing flat against Teton.

"It could have been," Blair said. "I don't really know. Between that and homecoming, they have been busy."

South Fremont will play host to Shelley on Tuesday.

Rigby 4, Sugar-Salem 3

At Rigby, the Trojans scored in the late stages of the match to secure a 4-3 win over Sugar-Salem.

Brandon Somsen, Kyle Andrews and Brett Miyasaki scored goals for the Diggers, who will host Snake River on Saturday.

Girls Soccer

At Idaho Falls, The Madison Lady Bobcats picked up a 6-0 win over Bonneville. Brittany Karl, Ashley Beagley, Lindsey Hayes and Jaqui Bird each added a goal for the Lady Bobcats. Freshman Whitney Brown scored two goals in the win for Madison.

Sugar-Salem 5, Rigby 3

At Rigby, the Lady Diggers avenged a season-opening loss to Rigby. Brandy Peters scored two goals, while Sarah Thompson, Annabell Tafoya and Cira Harris each scored once.
